✚ Jeudi Delacroix ✚
🌍 ENG Devoted friend of Maurice Denis, I met him in the Lycée Concrodet in Paris. With him and a few other talented and bold young people, in the late 1880s we create the group called "Les Nabis", inspired by the desire to renew painting in connection with other arts. A big fan of Eugène Delacroix, I am a member of the Société des Amis d'Eugène Delacroix, of which the first gathering takes place in my home, on Vintimille Street. Who am I?

Painter Maurice Denis was born on this day in 1870. In date and sensibility, his work bridges the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, and as shown here, he had a firm grasp on modernist thought. He once said, "Remember that a picture, before being a war horse, a female nude, or some anecdote, is essentially a flat surface covered with colors assembled in a certain order."
