"Bust of a Faun" by Pablo Picass,1950

Tonight's Art Moment is "Bust of a Faun" by Pablo Picasso. Picasso first visited the Madoura Pottery at Vallauris in the south of France during the summer of 1946. Drawn to the Ramié family studio, he asked many questions, casually molded several small pieces in terracotta clay and left them there. The following summer, he returned to find that the Ramiés had honored his work by keeping the little pieces. From this point on, Georges and Suzanne Ramié became his collaborators in the production of ceramic plates, bowls, pitchers and vases. The Ramiés fashioned the forms upon which Picasso painted with clay slips and glazes. This vase was conceived in 1950 and executed in an edition of 25. Not on view.
