Federico Barocci (c. 1535 in Urbino – 1612 in Urbino) was an Italian Renaissance painter and printmaker. His original name was Federico Fiori, and he was nicknamed Il Baroccio. His work was highly esteemed and influential, and foreshadows the Baroque of Rubens.

In Perugia, the restoration that took place on the occasion of the 2009 exhibition on Federico Barocci, author of the Deposition canvas in 1567-1569, admirable in the Cathedral of San Lorenzo, restored the splendid, bright and brilliant colors of the altarpiece, which is experiencing a great moment of pathos in the fainting of the Madonna below, towards which the frightened pious women rush. Played horizontally the lower register of the painting as played vertically is the upper register, with a very young Saint John embracing the feet of Christ and the wind that moves the clothes of men who are taking Jesus from the cross.
