黃永砯1954年出生於福建港口城市廈門，是上世紀80年代中國前衛藝術的一位重要人物。他於1989年後移居法國並加入了法國國籍；1999年，他代表法國參加威尼斯雙年展；現定居巴黎南郊小城塞納河畔伊夫裡。他在藝術創作上恢弘極端，素以非同凡響的巨型裝置聞名於世。
