這本書應該轉譯自英文本：Translated by Randolph Weaver and Dorothy Weaver. Boston: Little, Brown, 1962
附原文、注解處都太少；中文也有些錯字，無索引（英文本有將傳主之主題細分成數十小標題）或翻譯對照表等。不過，這是少數「子為父立傳」而充滿愛情和智慧的書（我以為傳主為老友之子重印其父精心翻譯自義大利的信/序最精彩）。
其實這本書也是Jean Renoir ( 1894 – 1979)之部分 自傳/回憶錄（他的專著：My Life and My Films，我尚未看）。 其中去看戲聽到的穢語最有意思…….
前年其父子合展在美國登場；"Renoir/Renoir," presented with the Musée d'Orsay,
手頭上還有一本 1984年出版的專論：

約1986年東京有一 Renoir 之大展，玉燕買了不少大幅複製品，不知擺在何方。
我當時也在NHK看到Pierre Auguste Renoir 晚年臨死實際作畫的影片，令人感動、憮然。這一了不起的「軟木塞子」（Pierre 名言，「人不過是塊軟木塞子罷了，你必須讓自己在生命裡漂流，就像軟木塞子漂浮在溪流之上。」 這「軟木塞子」 在後文多次使用………）

這本書太妙，亦可以作巴黎-法國的民俗-文化史。Pierre 對於Viollet-le-Duc之破壞巴黎和里昂的聖母院等恨之入 骨，所以後來（無意間）搬家到rue Viollet-le-Duc，吵著必須再搬Despite the advantage of having the apartment on the same level as his studio, my father wanted to move out ..

During the Paris Commune in 1871 , while he painted by the Seine River, a Commune group thought he was spying and they were about to throw him in the river when a Commune leader, Raoul Rigault, recognized Renoir as the man who protected him on an earlier occasion.
