English landscape artist Alfred William Rich was born #onthisday in 1856. Rich was known for his watercolours and his style was influenced by earlier English painters Peter De Wint, Thomas Girtin and John Sell Cotman. He held his first solo exhibition in his Croydon studio in 1896, as well as a major one-man show at the Egyptian Hall in Piccadilly in 1902, and was also included in the 1914 Venice Biennale.
