What is a series? Sometimes, artists conceive of works in groups, rather than individually. Groups or series can be done for decorative purposes, to fit a specific space. They can also be done for thematic purposes, as different explorations of a single theme. In his views of the Rouen cathedral, Claude Monet explored how one building looked different depending upon the time of day and the weather conditions.
