Happy birthday to Vincent van Gogh! In his work “Street in Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer,” Van Gogh captures the vibrant beauty of a Mediterranean fishing village.
The artist’s endearing image of the town, with its lush vegetation and warm cottages set against the backdrop of the Mediterranean Sea, is also a framework for his exploration of complementary colors.
The painting is now on view at the Kimbell as a part of “The Nancy Lee and Perry R. Bass Collection.”
Happy birthday to Vincent van Gogh, born today in 1853. On view now in our collection gallery, see his 1889 "Mountains at Saint-Rémy," painted in the final years of his life from the grounds of a hospital in the southern French town of Saint-Rémy, where the artist was in recovery:http://gu.gg/KYOd5
