Nabeshima ware (鍋島焼, Nabeshima-yaki)

This 18th century Japanese "Footed Dish" is tonight's Art Moment. Stringent production standards assured that Nabeshima ware was the most flawless type of porcelain produced in Japan. It was made in limited quantities for the Nabeshima family, feudal lords of the Edo period, for their exclusive use. Techniques of production were a closely guarded secret kept over many generations by the small number of families allowed to produce the ware.
