The Gallery is home to a wonderful collection of Winslow Homer works, 129 in all, most of them works on paper. This article by Amy Athey McDonald for Yale News details Homer's work as a Civil War correspondent producing illustrations of battle scenes and camp life for Harper's Weekly. Now on view in the American paintings and sculpture galleries are several oil paintings by Homer. The Civil War engravings featured in this story are viewable by appointment in the James E. Duffy Study Room for Prints, Drawings and Photographs.
