Tonight's Art Moment is this colorful Bowl from the late 12th to early 13th century. The decoration of this vessel demonstrates the pervasiveness of early Islamic designs in the eastern Islamic lands. The inside of the bowl is painted with interlocking palmettes and split-leaf arabesques that create a repeating hexagonal pattern radiating from the center. Turquoise glaze is frequently used in Islamic art at this time in the production of ceramic wares and glazed architectural tiles.
