Parkinson's patients worked with clay, paint, and other materials for more than 10 weeks of art therapy workshops—creating original pieces that went on display in a recent exhibition at NYU.
The effort is part of a study by NYU Steinhardt School of Culture, Education, and Human Development and NYU Langone Health assessing the neurological and psychological impacts of art therapy on those living with Parkinson's. Results will become available in spring 2019, but researchers have already seen an impact—noting that some patients experienced a reduction in hand shaking while engaged in their work.
